Microwave Internet Vs Optical Fiber: Which One Is Better?

July 23 2017 Published on #internet, #wireless internet, #microwave internet

With every little detail dependant on the internet, the way of accessing the information is rapidly changing. Today, everything is just a click away. Considering the growing popularity of the internet, many technologies have come up that promise to deliver a steady internet connection. Starting from the microwave internet to the optical fiber, each of them is in the race to provide the best service. So now the question is which one to choose; wireless internet connection or the fiber? Since both have their pros and cons so it is difficult to make out which one is the best. Actually, it all depends on the utility of each type and how well it suits the various requirements.

Talking about the fiber optics first,

It is a thin flexible transparent fiber made of either glass or plastic that uses light to transmit and receive voice and data communications over distances both big and small. Designed to operate at a higher bandwidth, these are immune to electromagnetic interference and hence makes up for fiber optic internet and communication.

Its Pros

•    It offers better connection quality as it is resistant to electromagnetic waves
•    Higher speed is another plus point of using an optical fiber for communication
•    They are secure and can carry signals to longer distances without any interruption

Its Cons

•    Investing in optical fiber is an expensive affair
•    Physical damage is another big issue with the fibers as these are extremely delicate
•    Connections through fibers requires you to be physically connected without moving around too much

Coming over to the microwave internet service now,

The microwave internet providers are in huge demand these days because of the efficiency of this wireless internet connection. It allows high-speed and reliable internet access almost anywhere and uses microwave radio spectrum to carry signals from one point to another. All in all, it is the super fast way of data transfer.

Its Pros

•    It lets you access the internet even in the remote areas and that too without the hectic need of cables
•    Microwave internet offers noiseless and faster communications
•    The wireless internet connection is speedy and reliable and does not involve any complex installation process

•    It is a more dependable option, which is easy to maintain as well as affordable

It's Cons

•    Shared bandwidth is an issue with the microwave internet service as all connections within the tower range use the same bandwidth
•    It does not support roaming because of just one physical access point per subscriber
•    Wireless networks are difficult to secure in comparison to wired options

With pros and cons of both the connections before you, it is you who has to decide which service you want to go with. Although both of them are proficient in their own ways and have their unique plus points but looking at the current internet scenario, wireless internet connection looks more promising. Rest the choice is yours!
